Veterans History

LLOYD LEWIS, WORLD WAR II VETERAN - Lloyd served with the United States Marines, 4th Marine Division during World War II. He was a rifleman. Lloyd and his twin brother, Boyd, were only 18 years old when they landed on Iwo Jima, February 19, 1945. Iwo Jima was the bloodiest battle the Marines have ever fought. The American forces suffered almost 20,000 casualties on this tiny pork chopped shaped island. Lloyd tells of the loss of his brother in this gripping story. MARION GRAY, WORLD WAR II VETERAN - Marion served with the United States Army, 116th Regiment of the 29th Infantry Division. These were the first troops to land at Normandy, France on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Marion served as a combat medic as saw first hand the horrors of war. Marion’s faith has carried him through the years. I have enjoyed some very memorable times visiting with him and his wife of over 60 years, Ruthie. Click here or on the picture to start the video.
WALLACE CACKLER, WORLD WAR II VETERAN - Wallace served with the United States Navy during World War II. He was involved with the invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He described the landing at Iwo Jima as walking into the “jaws of hell itself!” His war experience forever changed him. I lost Wallace in 2007. I have very fond memories of going into his home in Colorado and interviewing him. He missed his wife dearly after she died. Click here or on the picture to start the video.
