Remember
Me
“Remember
me,” he asked her as he held her through the night.
“Remember
me,” she answered, her eyes were full of fright.
He
was off to combat; fear set off all alarms.
“Remember
me,” he whispered to the infant in her arms.
She
kissed him quick and then she ran, he did not ask her why.
He
knew what she was feeling; it hurt too much to cry.
The
time it passed so slowly – each moment as an hour.
They
both felt loneliness, they could not overpower.
“Remember
how I feel,” she wrote him every day
“Remember
our love,” he answered, “Don’t ever go away.”
“Remember
our baby,” she pleaded the tears filled up her heart.
“Though
war separates us - it can’t cut love apart.”
“Remember
me?” he asked her when he stepped off the plane.
“Remember
me,” she answered, “Shall we begin again?”
“Remember
him,” she pointed, his baby was now grown.
He
knew that she would cry but these tears were his own.
She
remembered how he loved her as she made it through each day;
Praying
that war memories would gradually go away.
She
loved him so she waited for every wound to heal;
Some
were the kind you see; some
were the kind you feel.
He
held her tight and kissed her; he loved her very much.
Their
strength was in each other – in every gentle touch.
“Remember
it all,” they whispered and held each other tight.
Our
love brought us through it – we made it come out right.
Remember
they had promised, when it was before them yet.
Now
it was a memory – they never would forget.
